Think

Problems, problems, problems!

“There are so many problems in the society.”

“Nothing is going right around me.”

“There is so much pollution around.”

“There’s so much garbage lying around.”

“Traffic is so bad these days.”

The quota system is detrimental to the psyche of our students.”

“Politicians are doing nothing for our country.”

The list is endless. People can go on talking about the problems.

But, the question is, does it ever help? Just complaining about all these issues is of no use. We need to focus on talking about the solutions instead. People who’ve focused on solutions rather than problems are the ones who have made a mark in the society and brought the change they wanted to see.

One of the major problems these days is the increasing number of rape cases in our country.

Instead of talking about it’s so sad, and demanding politicians to take an action, let’s discuss how can all of us help, and what are the possible solutions . According to me, the solution lies in working at the ground level. We should teach our sons to be more respectful towards girls. Once, I came across a BBC article which stated that there is a school in Sweden where the gender is not taught in the basic years of education. The words like ‘he-she’, ‘his-her’, ‘girl-boy’ are not even introduced to the kids. Instead, the teachers refer to the other students as "friends", by their first names or as "hen" which is a genderless Finnish pronoun. That makes so much sense to me, and I think it’s a great way to help the kids rise above gender stereotypes. Both the genders should be treated as just ‘humans’, because in fact, that’s what we all are. When these kids will grow up, they’ll treat each other equally. Why can’t we adopt such things in our country too? Are holding protests and marches, only when a major tragedy occurs and a life is changed forever, enough? Are holding talk shows enough? How many Daminis and how many Aasifas will have to sacrifice their lives before we start thinking of the solutions and start acting on them?

Think.
